Stop Here To Shop
Between its outdoor collection of architectural pieces and two-level building full of rugs and home furnishings, Seret & Sons occupies just about a whole city block. Across the street, breeze through Lucille's brightly colored clothing, especially the flowing skirts. For art or gifts from all over the world, squeeze through the tight aisles at both locations of Fourth World Cottage Industries. One focuses on Latin American imports and the other on Asian.
The Art Scene
A gallery owner on Canyon Road puts it this way: "We're one step behind New York, but only New York." Yes, you will sniff a sense of entitlement when gallery-hopping, but you'll also discover many genres. Find contemporary paintings and sculpture at Winterowd Fine Art as well as high-end traditional works at the Zaplin Lampert Gallery, featuring artists of Santa Fe, Taos and the American West.
You cannot visit Santa Fe without paying homage to the famous painter at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. The museum boasts more than 1000 of her works.
When You Want To Splurge
The former owner of the Inn of the Five Graces was an international art and antiques dealer, and every extravagantly decorated room and detail echo his expertise.
The tiger prawn tempura shows Santacafé's touches of Asian influence.

A Pepper Primer
We asked Courtney Carswell, whose family owns both La Choza and longtime Santa Fe icon The Shed, to help us understand the difference between red and green chiles.
"Dried red chiles are green chiles that mature on the vine. The sauce has a rich, piquant flavor. Green chile sauce comes from chiles picked green on the vine and then roasted until the skin blisters. When it's well-roasted, it has a smoky flavor," he explains.
