The Bandelier National Monument, a beautiful canyon 45 miles west of Santa Fe, was home to ancient Pueblos in AD 1100 to 1550. The area encompasses 65 miles of trails and abandoned Pueblo villages. A beautiful look at the history of the region.

If you have only a couple of days in Santa Fe, you should spend a good part of it here. Make sure to bring your walking shoes and some spending money. There are many wonderful galleries, shops, and a few restaurants and museums up and down this street. Parking can be tricky, so get there early and plan to use one of the city's pay lots.
