7. Plaza Café

Did we go to the same place?
I was ravashing from hiking in the nearby mountains. I could eat a raw bear whole. The line was not as long so I opted to sit at the counter - first mistake. Nobody was at the counter. I sat in front of the bus area they emptied trays and plates all during my visit. Noted a lot of dirt behind the counter hasn't been cleaned in months judging by the discolored splashes on the paper rolls at the waiter computer. Another person sat next to me after I ordered a soft drink and meal - Then her beer came first then the meal. I was still looking around to see if my waiter was around. She ate half the meal 15min then mine showed up. Oh BTW Counter hadn't been wiped for a meal or two. Mine was chicken I ordered beef burrito. Then I checked and chicken burrito was cold. I was starving and thirsty then - the litttle glass of soft drink packed Texas style (ICE and a little soda). Before I could say anything everybody disappeared and so did the meal. I watched a group of ladies who came in a half hour after I did dining on a breakfast platter. Finally, my order was up. Meat was rushed and medium chewy not even a sear mark on it not well done like all the others. The Sopapilla was slightly raw in the middle. The wait staff was too busy with the regular crowd and the large tables to flag down. Then they couldn't give me a check. They also couldn't let me use my expense account credit card. The waiter's swipe badge didn't work suddenly. I had to break a $100 bill to pay for a $14 meal. I used up smaller bills at places that don't have cash reserves. So an unpleasurable experience. I won't sit at the counter there and judging by the response of the hostess I won't be sitting in there at all. When I explained there were five bus areas behind the counter the only one used was where I sat - I explained about the food and she was so why didn't you find me? I'm not into looking for waiters wandering around a cafe. That could have been avoided by checking on the customer. Sorry, I usually don't have problems and very tolerant of things going wrong but this one was overtly bad.

Welcome to the 1950's. The food is great, the service is fast and the place is ALWAYS busy. I visit it every trip to Santa Fe and am never unhappy with the food, service or price.
