7. Scheinbaum and Russek Ltd.

David Scheinbaum was formerly assistant to photographer/curator Beaumont Newhall; wife Janet Russek worked for noted photographer Eliot Porter. Both accomplished photographers themselves, Scheinbaum and Russek have an outstanding collection of vintage and modern prints by such noted artists as Laura Gilpin, Minor White, Willard Van Dyke, Brett and Edward Weston, Newhall and Porter. Knowledgeable and accessible, the couple is an excellent resource on contemporary and historical photography. Their gallery is usually staffed Wednesday-Saturday, but call ahead.   (© 10Best)
