Avoid unless money is no object to you
Ira is a notorious rug merchant. He is smarter than you, more charming than you can prepare for, and highly gifted and knowing how much he can over charge you while making you feel smart about your purchase. In the 1980's he seemed to be a smart Santa Fe merchant, today he is a blight on our reputation. Take it from me and many other experienced collectors of Tibetan furnishings, Asian rugs, and architectual artifacts - a few hours of research and some phone calls to other dealers will net you equally valuable products at a fraction of Ira's prices. Ira preyes on the wealthy. If you are wealthy, then ira will feed your ego while over charging for some very nice artifacts - by all means, indulge. Consider yourself his perfect customer. If, on the other hand, you are a knowledgeable collector then be prepared for Ira to show you to the door shortly after you represent your knowledge of the items and their current market values.
