10. Zaca Mesa Winery

LOS OLIVOS.   This beautiful estate, which sits atop a plateau in the scenic San Rafael Mountains, was founded back in the late 1970s after its founders determined that the climate and fertile soil atop Zaca Mesa were ideal for growing Rhône varietals. Wines from the estate have won several regional, national, and international awards (including a Syrah that placed 6th in the world in "Wine Spectator's" Top Wineries of 1995). The staff is warm and accommodating, and visitors to Zaca Mesa will likely find plenty to keep them occupied: tastings, winery tours, and exploring the hiking trails that crisscross the estate.   (© 10Best)
