ZONA COLONIAL.   The first monastery in the Americas, Monasterio de San Francisco stands as a tribute to the first wave of permanent colonists who settled in the New World. Although in ruins today – thanks to a nasty fire started by Sir Francis Drake and his raiders in 1586 and an equally destructive 1673 earthquake – the monastery is still a popular sightseeing attraction. At night, it's especially spectacular.   (© 10Best)

Loved the history behind the building. I was interested and had to see it even though ALL the locals said it's a waste. WELL they were right (of course). I was scared to even be there. There were bums all around the building following you, coughing on you, and begging even though they could see we had nothing. I literally was afraid for my life. The building was a mess. Almost nothing historical about it left.
