The Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens (BFCG) is a 50-acre extension education center supported jointly by the UGA Extension and the Chatham County Commission. It began in 1919, as the first US Department of Agriculture plant introduction station. There are many mature plants that were originally introduced by USDA plant collectors. Most of the plants were introduced from Asia. There are amazing collections of bamboo, camellias, lotus, palms, Gray's Iris, daylillies, crepe myrtle and holly. There are banana and dragon fruit research projects and several demonstration gardens. Facility rentals are available for receptions, meetings and parties.
