The Buzz -- Dr. Liz Screaton will be giving a lecture on the following: Water in the Earthquake Process
Subduction zones produce the largest and most damaging earthquakes on earth; these earthquakes can be accompanied by devastating tsunamis. The sediments that often host the earthquake faults began at the seafloor, with a consistency similar to pudding. Through subduction, these weak sediments evolve to be able to fail catastrophically during earthquakes. Free to the public; maximum of 100 participants.
