HISTORIC DISTRICT. A long-lived Savannah tradition, the original City Market opened in 1755 as a fish, game, and produce market. Although the historic structure no longer stands, the Historical Savannah Foundation constructed a new market on the same property. Today, this charming town center houses art galleries, specialty shops, restaurants, pubs, and cafes. A number of trolley and carriage tours also start here. On weekends, live bands frequently entertain in the courtyards. (© 10Best) Since 1755, this square has been a hub for commercial ventures. In the restored grain houses, where fresh fish and local fruit were once peddled out of horse-drawn carriages, lie great restaurants, shops, and art galleries.
