Great atmosphere
My husband and I ate there when we stopped in Savannah for a few days on our way to Florida, and we loved the place. The atmosphere was great. I loved sitting out and watching nature. The food was just great. The waiter was very pleasant.

We are from Ga and had to go to savannah on work. We were in search of stone crab and it seemed from calling around the Crab Shack was the only place that had it. So we drove well out of our way to be totally disapointed. The service was horrible! We waited 15 min. before the server even came over then another 25 for our food. Once we got our food the server never checked back with us except to throw our check at us. And the Crab was horrible! Either you would get a piece that had no flavor VERY bland, or it was so fishy tasting you could hardly eat it. Nothing like Stone Crab should be. I will say the smashed potatoes were very good. We were very let down and will NEVER return to or recommend the Crab Shack!

I loved the food and the atmosphere. You've got marsh, you've got big fans keeping you cool, you've got alligators and bunny's to check out (no they aren't housed together) and you have some of the best steamed or boiled seafood on earth. My wife would disagree with my rating because she hates seafood (and there are very little choices for such a person) and the smell of the marsh can get a little intense.

At first glance, it does seem like a tourist trap. The kids love seeing the live alligators. I live in Savannah and beg my husband to take me to The Crab Shack for their Lowcountry Boil. The food lives up to the hype and we have always had great service.

Tourist trap. The low country boil is overdone and tasteless. The other seafood dishes seemed... well like it was left over from the night before. If you are looking for seafood in Savannah, go downtown to Riverstreet, any place you walk into will be better than this.

This place is highly over rated and I seriously doubt it would pass a health inspection. If the "elite eat in their bare feet", I would have concerns for the elite picking up an infectious disease from the dirty bare wood floors. My wife had the low country boil which was grossly over cooked and I had the boiled shrimp & Crab. The crab meat was bland and devoid of seasoning. Corn on the cob was over cooked and the shrimp was mediocre. Not a good dining experience.

In my opinion this place is a tourist trap. The portions were not large as I had read in another review. I had the low country boil and it was OK. I've had much better meals in other Savannah restaurants. Most of the food was luke warm. We were being eaten by gnats are we were eating. The issue with that is we were seated inside - I can't image what it was like outside. It appears this is the place to go to get drunk - not have a good meal.

Excellent quality of food; good and friendly service; quantity of food is more than any mortal can possibly eat. Go with the main combo deal. Have 4 people, order for 3, etc. Don't dress up, you'll be out of sync - their motto is, "Where the elite meet to eat in their bare feet." If you know the normal, formal summer attire on Tybee (i.e., tee shirt, shorts and flip-flops), then you get the idea of the atmosphere. Though there is some covered seating, the action is in the totally open area, so go in good weather. Want to impress some stuffed shirt - this ain't the place. Want to kick back, relax, have a marvelous low country meal - it can't be beaten. WEM 12/11/00.
