About Savannah Shopping
You can be certain that a town catering to tourists has an excellent supply of shops where they can buy souvenirs, discover fascinating goods unknown at home, and just browse the offerings to absorb the flavor of the city. In Savannah, most of these places are clustered in the historic district, which makes access abundantly easy. Bull and Bay Streets are populated by many intriguing vendors, and River Street is a must, not only for its variety of retail opportunities but for its fantastic views of the river and picturesque sailing vessels. In the streets around it are antique shops, book stores, gift and apparel boutiques, and other specialty shops of all kinds, toys to tobacco. While there, you'd be remiss not to walk through the plethora of art galleries that pepper the district. Landscapes and coastal scenes, 18th- and 19th-century works, photography and the breadth of local art are displayed for folks who want to take home a reminder of the port city. Pinnacle Gallery is even affiliated with SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), so you know that it exhibits only the finest works. City Market, a shopping institution that has endured into the 21st century, remains a local favorite, and it's not only the focal point of many tours and entertainment opportunities, but it hosts an appealing selection of retail shops too. Finally, if you can't pass up a mall, no matter where you are, know that both Savannah and Oglethorpe stand poised to accommodate your shopping appetites.
