HISTORIC DISTRICT. Dark, rich walls and floors, lots of gilt accents, and the shimmer of candlelight impart a degree of classy elegance to this upscale bar. Upstairs from the inn's restaurant, Casimir's invites patrons to nurse an inventive cocktail, indulge in the lengthy wine list, and enjoy live piano, blues, and jazz music. It's a great place to frequent if you want to romance a companion or to meet an interesting group of people. For added allure, visit the rooftop terrace and take in the beauty of Forsyth Park by night.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Lulu's boasts the perfect concept for date night – or for any other night, come to think of it. The dessert bar serves decadent confections, along with wines and scrumptious martinis. Go simple with chocolate-covered strawberries, or treat yourself to a tower of mousse on a chocolate round. Add in a dreamsicle martini, a raspberry espresso martini, or the Lulutini, which is essentially a glass of several varieties of liquid chocolate liqueurs. Amazing! A jukebox with retro tunes from the '30s to the '70s helps set the smooth, delicious tone.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Hidden away beneath the venerable restaurant, this quiet, seductive place has mesmerized visitors for ages. It's got historic flavor courtesy of aged brick, gleaming woodwork, and fireplaces, and its upholstered furniture adds a measure of comfort. Post yourself on a sofa, or take a perch at the bar, and enjoy a glass of wine while you listen to lovely piano music and the jazz stylings of talented vocalists. If you didn't manage dinner upstairs, you can order food to be served in the tavern. A classic.

RIVERFRONT. Unmistakably Irish, this terrific pub feels right at home in its historic building. Beneath beamed ceilings and amid brick walls, art, and memorabilia, patrons treat themselves to cigars, single malt scotches, and great beers. The pub even has Guinness and Harp on tap, perfectly setting the authentic tone! Sit upstairs to view ships going by and to catch sight of passers-by on River Street. To keep the authenticity going, Kevin Barry's presents live Irish music nightly at 8:30pm.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Moon River Brewing Company is the city's only brew pub, and it makes the finest beer in the Southeast right on the premises. Ask for a taster glass to sample any or all of the brews to see which you like best. Also offered are a full bar and great food. Start off with spinach artichoke dip, and then consider excellent and reasonably priced sandwiches, pastas, appetizers, and more. Entrees include baby back ribs, crab cakes, blackened sea scallops, and chicken and sausage Creole. Daily lunch specials and lots of artwork are also crowd-pleasers.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Promoting itself as "Savannah's #1 dance club," this long-lived establishment pulls in lots of clubbers who want a high-energy, good-time experience. They party the night away on the club's main floor and enjoy dancing, pool, game machines, snacks, and frozen drinks in the more intimate video bar. Cabaret shows are also featured Thursday through Sunday. Cinema buffs will be pleased to note that Lady Chablis, the famous drag queen featured in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, makes monthly appearances at the mostly-gay dance club.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Graced by a gorgeous mahogany bar, Churchill's is an upmarket English pub whose furnishings were directly imported from England, along with its owners! The beautiful place functions as restaurant and bar, and it offers rooftop dining and a terrace, not to mention a good selection of imported beers on tap. Complementing them is great pub food, like fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and bangers and mash. The fun, authentic atmosphere makes Churchill's a favorite with expats, locals, and tourists alike.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. This happening night spot occupies the basement of the historic Kress building, but its funky, industrial appeal is decidedly modern. A long metallic bar, black tabletops, red-seated chairs, and vibrant paintings accent the room, and a separate lounge features dark leather couches. An extensive small plates menu ($5-12 each) draws from a wide variety of culinary traditions, and you'll want to try a variety to get the full effect. Opt for the baked cheese terra cotta plate with its accompaniments of roasted garlic, sliced green apples, and French bread, or sample Cuban-rubbed beef satays with jalapeno glaze. Wines (by the bottle or glass), ports, and over twenty martinis grace the drinks menu. Live music is a nice addition from Wednesday till Sunday.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. A historic mansion dating from 1790, this property was restored and opened as an inn in 1976. Its restaurant recalls a brick-and-beams tavern, and its excellent American Continental menu features dishes like pecan-crusted grouper, coq au vin, and crab-stuffed shrimp. Happy hour specials attract lively crowds to the inn's cozy lounge, which (like the property itself) is apparently haunted by the ghost of a lovesick young woman.
