HISTORIC DISTRICT. Although housed in a 19th-century mansion, 700 Drayton has a pronounced modern sensibility that creates a dynamic tension in its cuisine and decor. Beautiful architecture, vibrant artwork, and high ceilings set the scene for updated morning dishes that include Belgian waffles with peach compote, make-your-own omelets, cinnamon-pecan French toast, and a crab-and-cheddar biscuit version of eggs benedict. When brunch rolls around, you can also find salads, sandwiches, and dishes like stuffed breast of chicken with mustard greens and a blue crab cake with tasso gumbo and bourbon buttered leeks.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. A bountiful breakfast buffet draws hungry patrons to Belford's each morning, and the a la carte menu features items like a blue crab frittata and traditional eggs Benedict. Sunday brunch follows suit and includes great choices from the lunch menu, including shrimp and grits, crab cakes, and filling sandwiches. At dinner, you'll find options like Cajun lobster ravioli, shrimp-stuffed filet mignon, and grilled fish. A favorite.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Whether you've come for a dinner date or weekend brunch, this neighborhood café doesn't disappoint. Large windows, an outdoor dining space, and a focus on healthy dishes (vegetarian and vegan options are available) ensure lots of business. Popular morning fare includes omelets, French toast, smoothies, pancakes, and "dressed up hash browns." Bolstering these selections at Sunday brunch are benedicts and more substantial egg dishes, not to mention "brunch bowls," essentially scrambles and stir-fries. Happily, Firefly is a big proponent of recycling and makes a strong effort to promote sustainability.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Within a charming downtown storefront is a fun, upbeat coffee shop that's enticed many a visitor. As much as it's known for fragrant drinks, it's also known for sometimes-edgy art displays, including a photography exhibit called "Plastic People" that looks at dolls in a whole new light. Besides sodas, teas, and coffees, expect bagels and muffins, salads and sandwiches, and cookies, cakes, and wines. A cheese board and scoops of ice cream ease the cravings for both salty and sweet, should they arise.

RIVERFRONT. Great breakfasts, with delicious Southern and New Orleans flair, are a staple here and include dishes like eggs sardou, Creole omelets, pain perdue, and simply awesome beignets and coffee. Lunch and dinner options include fried catfish, filé gumbo, po' boys, crawfish etouffée, fried green tomatoes, and shrimp and grits. Desserts are well worth the calories, especially praline cheesecake and the bread pudding special, which changes daily.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Offering a number of locations in the Southeast, this cheery restaurant is comfortable, reliable and efficient, and it promises a good variety to please lots of tastes. Get a glass of OJ, a cup of dark French roast, or a cuppa Earl Grey, and then study the menu. Berry crepes sound good, but so does eggs Benedict or corned beef hash. Then, of course, there's maple French toast, chocolate chip pancakes, and omelets and skillet dishes galore. Yes, it will be hard to decide, but that just means you can give in to the temptation another day! Soups, salads, sandwiches, and burgers can also be had.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Soho South's motto is "where food is an art," and since 1997, they've been turning out delicious offerings certain to please palate and eye. Terrific ingredients and attention to detail make a noticeable difference in quality, as seen in the Sunday brunch menu. Try a flavor-packed Southwestern omelet, enjoy a savory Monte Cristo sandwich, or give yourself over to their shrimp and grits. If you'd prefer something with a sweeter touch, go for brioche French toast or crisp-edged pecan waffles. Scrumptious bakery goods are also on-hand.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. A fun, upbeat vibe distinguishes this light-filled eatery, which also gets a punch of color from local artwork, decoupaged tabletops, and a big blackboard listing the day's specials. Sit inside or out (it's seat yourself), and get ready for a meal of tasty barbecue. It's even available on the brunch menu, which includes items like barbecue hash and English muffins topped with pulled pork, scrambled eggs, and hollandaise. Other options include biscuits and gravy, a breakfast burrito, shrimp and grits, and eggs with grits and either bacon, sausage, or smoked salmon. Delicious!

TYBEE ISLAND. Nope, you won't find Ally Sheedy or Judd Nelson here – this place has been around way longer than the '80s movie they starred in. That's given it a long time to gain a loyal clientele, and popular it is. You'll have to get up early to avoid waiting in line! The eatery is a favorite of locals, and once tourists discover it, they're addicted, too. Chef Jodee Sadowsky serves wonderful dishes like shrimp and grits, omelets, eggs and sausage, waffles, corned beef hash, steak and eggs, and the house specialty, egg florentine (poached, with spinach, mushrooms, and melted Swiss). If time is really tight, you can sometimes shorten your wait by choosing to sit at the counter.
