HISTORIC DISTRICT. For a first-hand experience of Savannah's history and lore, let this company be your guide. Costumed tour leaders share their wealth of knowledge about the fascinating city, informing guests of hauntings, tragedies, and life in Savannah from Colonial days. The haunted history tour is great for families; however, children are not allowed on the pub crawl. The latter departs from either 21 West Bay Street or 311 West Congress Street. Reservations are required for all tours.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. These tours depart at twilight from the John Wesley monument, an apt historical signpost that indicates the tours' long-ago subject matter. Guides rely on research and documentation from books and studies on the paranormal for their content, sharing the information with intrigued visitors who can't get enough of the city's already-strong magnetism. Tours are conducted from an actual hearse that carried bodies for many years. It's been outfitted now to accommodate live passengers, and it boasts an open yet covered roof. As you glide down the river, guides tell you about the sights before you, and you can catch glimpses of wildlife, including dolphins. A variety of tours is available, depending on your interests, but Old Savannah is happy to accommodate. There's a historic overview tour, several ghost tour offerings, a river cruise (with buffet lunch), and even one that highlights local girl, food personality, and restaurant owner Paula Deen. It comes with lunch and a gift bag, of course! Most tours require reservations.

As you board these trolleys, a guide provides running commentary; en route, guests travel in open-air cars and take in the sights and sounds of the town. These tours leave from many convenient locations throughout Savannah and are an excellent way to become acquainted with the city. Sixteen stops and unlimited reboarding allow customers to get off and have lunch or shop at stores that are of particular interest.

The excursions are a great way to see the city without contributing to air pollution and traffic congestion. They also make for good exercise! Call for reservations, and note that morning and afternoon tours leave from Reynolds Square while evening tours depart from Johnson Square. Tours are cash-only unless you purchase advance tickets by phone.
