OLD TOWN. Blazing torches, an aquarium filled with tropical fish, bamboo detailing, and ubiquitous drink umbrellas make Drift an appealing (if kitsch-filled) spot to eat, imbibe, and scope out the scene. The patio, warmed by a fire pit, is a great choice for the early evening, while the island-themed interior is the place to see and be seen as the night progresses. Order the popular Evil Bastard for a sweet treat – Bacardi and fruit syrup served aflame, courtesy of a blazing, rum-saturated sugar cube. A shareable pu pu platter, slow-cooked ribs, and delicious deep-fried egg rolls represent the menu.

OLD TOWN. Taking the elements of air, water, earth, and fire as its inspiration, this Vegas-styled dance club and lounge offers four unique environments. The low-key Air Patio and Earth Lounge are laid-back spaces where you can enjoy a cocktail and tapas at leisure. When you're ready to kick your evening into high gear, relocate to the Fire Room or Liquid Room for energetic dance or smooth house tunes, respectively. Sleek decor characterizes the club, and running water features and innovative lighting are in line with the elemental theme.

NORTH SCOTTSDALE. This multi-faceted establishment boasts two bars, a restaurant, and live music, and it even morphs into a dance club after 10pm. When the weather is mild, take a seat on the tree-dotted, tiled patio, outfitted with a handsome stone bar so you don't have to venture inside for more libations. Torch-lit and affording desert views, the patio is a perfect venue for a glass of wine and intimate conversation. If you'd rather settle inside, park yourself on an inviting sofa or armchair while you peruse the wine list's 200+ varieties. Order tasty bites such as bacon-wrapped shrimp to accompany your drinks.

OLD TOWN. This enticing, backlit bar, separated from Furio's dining room by a sheer gold curtain, is fast becoming one of Scottsdale's trendiest spots to sit and sip. Try one (or two) of the fifteen unique cocktails, or choose something more familiar from the extensive wine list. Bring a date to Monday's Martinis & Manicures, where $10 buys a top-notch martini and dressed-up digits. Whether you eat dinner first in the adjoining Italian restaurant or simply order appetizers at the bar, you're guaranteed tasty bread, pasta, and pizza to complement your drink order.

OLD TOWN. Sleek, swanky Shaker Room sits atop hard-rocking Martini Ranch and is an oasis of animal-print sofas, cherrywood pool tables, and signature, hand-blended martinis. Come early to avoid lines for a snug dance floor that tends to fill up quickly. DJs lay down a stylish mix of electronica and disco in the always-crowded space, making it easy to lose yourself in the beat. High ceilings, exposed brickwork, and a faintly hallucinatory projection of colors and patterns lend a dreamy feel to the venue, and eager revelers happily submit to the vibe.

DOWNTOWN SCOTTSDALE. Tucked away from the bustle of Scottsdale, this wine bar has a distinctly subterranean feel, thanks to subdued lighting, softly-playing jazz, and wine casks that line the walls. The decor is heavy on stained glass and stone, imbuing the spot with a sense of mystery. Select from a truly staggerring wine list – over 1,500 varieties are available. Management has thoughtfully whittled the gargantuan list down to a top 50 list, and servers provide additional guidance if you're still overwhelmed. Nothing so mundane as a happy hour here; instead, you'll catch drink specials during the "early evening hours of joy."

NORTH SCOTTSDALE. A bar for true sports aficionados, Jilly's offers the ultimate opportunity to catch the latest scores – private booths outfitted with TVs, surround sound, and T1 Internet connections. If you're feeling social, grab a chair at the horseshoe-shaped bar; plenty of TVs are tuned into the game here, too. The pervasive sports theme, no-frills menu, and pleasant patio make for a laid-back vibe, but just wait until the cozy dance floor gets shaking on weekends. Equally welcoming to families and to the single set.
