OLD TOWN. This charming section of Old Town features plenty of unique shopping, dining, and entertainment. Eclectic specialty stores line the street, and shoppers stroll between them on the tree-lined avenue or take advantage of ubiquitous bicycle-taxis and a free trolley. Clothing, jewelry, arts and crafts, and gifts for the home and garden are all at-hand. Forming a hub for the district's activity is a striking, dynamic fountain by sculptor Bob Parks that features five rearing Arabian horses.

El Pedregal Festival Marketplace

This replication of a Moroccan market sits beneath a stunning natural rock formation against a gorgeous desert backdrop. Two levels house 35 stores and restaurants that encircle a courtyard and amphitheater. Gifts, art, and clothing with the distinct flavor of the Southwest can be found in many boutiques and shops. The Heard Museum North, a satellite of the Native American crafts museum in Phoenix, adds a touch of high culture to a day of commercialism. Free concerts are given on summer Thursday nights.

NORTH SCOTTSDALE. Incorporated into a planned community, this impressive shopping center was designed to have a Main Street feel, complete with sidewalks, a plaza, and buildings of varied appearance, all linked by a unity of design. Along with shops are residences, office space, and more. Characteristic establishments include Crate & Barrel, Z Gallerie, Barnes & Noble, Victoria's Secret, Anthropologie, and Sur la Table. Restaurants include The Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chang's, and Morton's, The Steakhouse.

DOWNTOWN. Scottsdale may be associated with cowboy art and an Old West aesthetic, but this district nestled in the heart of downtown possesses a thriving contemporary arts scene. Intimate galleries showcase a broad spectrum of art media, including painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed-media pieces. Local artists are strongly represented along with several nationally-recognized names. Boutiques featuring Southwestern jewelry and crafts also ply their wares. The first Thursday of each month finds the street alive with gallery openings, live music, and refreshments.

OLD TOWN. Many of this district's buildings date from the 1920s and have been renovated to house an appealing collection of specialty shops, which the neighborhood is known for today. Top-notch Native American and Mexican jewelry and crafts sit alongside wallet-friendly souvenirs in many shops, offering a little Old Town magic for all budgets. Over 150 stores and restaurants inhabit the area, so you're ensured of a great meal to conclude a day of shopping. Scottsdale Historical Museum offers an enticing break from the many stores.

One of the largest malls in the Southwest, this upscale shopping center contains more than 225 stores and restaurants, including 40 that are the sole representatives of their brand in Arizona. Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Dillard's, and Macy's ably fill anchor store roles; other venues include Burberry, Juicy Couture, Gucci, Max Mara, Anthropologie, BCBG Max Azria, and Sephora. An "Enchanted Kingdom" play area and a seven-screen cinema keep the entire family entertained. Spacious, pleasant, and airy, the mall encourages relaxed shopping.

Scottsdale Pavilions

A sprawling collection of 100-plus restaurants and shops, the Pavilions proffers a family-friendly environment and a plethora of mid-range retailers. Marshalls, Target, Best Buy, and Circuit City are the big draws, but you'll also find Bath & Body Works, Famous Footwear, Ulta, Michaels Arts & Crafts, Home Depot, and Sports Authority. A fun park, golf club, and movie theater present entertainment options. Wide, quarried-stone walkways connect different parts of the shopping complex. The standard roster of fast food restaurants is on-hand to combat shopping fatigue.

The Borgata

Bringing northern Italian atmosphere to Arizona, The Borgata features an assortment of specialty shops in exceedingly pleasant environs. Decorative fountains, cobbled walkways, and a smattering of patio cafes recreate the feel of San Gimignano, a medieval Italian village. Art, clothing, and jewelry are the vendibles while dining options tend towards Continental and Asian fare. When the weather's cooler (from October to April), Fridays promise an old-fashioned farmer's market, complete with fresh produce and flowers.

NORTH SCOTTSDALE. A Scottsdale landmark, this shopping center combines big-name retailers, specialty shops, office space, and tempting restaurants. Towering above the complex is a 125-foot spire conceived by Frank Lloyd Wright but never built by him – it's now a stunning architectural accent, especially when illuminated at night. Popular stops at the center include The Great Indoors, Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Maggiano's Little Italy, and In-N-Out Burger. Over 45 other shops and eateries attract folks to this busy outdoor mall.

A one-time ranch, this site is now home to a rambling complex of shops and restaurants, all beautifully landscaped. The Old West lives on in the center's general decor, and its aesthetic adorns the impressive collection of upscale, exclusive boutiques. Art, women's apparel, home furnishings, and bath and beauty products can all be had. Tempting dining options include the New American eatery Bloom, Pei Wei, and Paradise Bakery & Cafe. You'll enjoy browsing the manicured grounds almost as much as patronizing the shops.
