A number of signature annual events draws visitors to Seattle and creates excitement among locals, so if you can, embrace the crowds at one of these major festivals. Held on the waterfront, Seafair is a month-long summer festival highlighted by air shows, boat and hydroplane races and Fleet Week ship tours, and Seattle Center Winterfest offers diversions like ice skating, films and holiday concerts throughout the month of December. The city possesses a distinct niche for music and theater, and not surprisingly, many of its biggest events pertain to arts and entertainment. Held at the beginning of the summer, Seattle International Film Festival presents over 400 thought-provoking works from around the world over a period of several weeks, and the Northwest Folklife Festival features about 1,000 regional and Native American folk acts.
