CAPITOL HILL. This stately Tudor mansion, built in 1909 by Cecil Bacon, has eleven guest rooms, nine of which feature private baths. Each uniquely decorated room offers phone, dataport, clock radio, TV, and voicemail. For more secluded accommodations, request a room in the separate Carriage House. "Day rooms" can be rented for social or business events. Every morning, guests start their day with a breakfast of muffins, cereals, and pastries. Minimum stay may be required.

UNIVERSITY DISTRICT. This circa-1915 Colonial home now functions as a charming bed and breakfast. Six guest rooms, excepting one, have private baths, and five rooms open onto a private porch. Each room also features phone and dataport. The property affords great views of the Cascade Mountains or of downtown Seattle, and if you get too lonely, each room comes with a resident teddy bear! Prices include a full breakfast each morning. Minimum stays are required during summer months and holidays.

LANGLEY. This trio of charming cottages on gorgeous Whidbey Island is perfect for a romantic getaway or for seeking solitude in a beautiful setting. In Dove Cottage you'll find local artwork, stained glass windows, handmade furniture, and a river rock fireplace. A full kitchen and two bedrooms allow for longer stays. Chauntecleer House offers a private deck, outdoor spa, and plenty of interior space accented with pine antiques. The Potting Shed, meanwhile, grants water views, a generous tub, and a wood stove. Berry-picking, wineries, hiking, boating and fishing are only a brief drive away. While breakfast isn't prepared for guests, kitchens are stocked with necessary ingredients. Children over 8 years old may accompany guests.

Converted to a bed and breakfast in 1991, what were originally two circa-1903 homes are now furnished with a tasteful mix of antiques and contemporary pieces, including works by Northwest artists. Each of the seven guest rooms has individual style, and most have a private bath. A full breakfast includes fresh fruit and a hot breakfast entrée, such as a smoked salmon omelet or frittata with marinara and feta cheese. A minimum stay may be required.

DOWNTOWN. This inn occupies the first and second floors of an elegant, high-rise residential building in the arts district. It's convenient to Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, and Harbor Steps Park, just off the waterfront. Guest rooms feature balcony, garden view, and fireplace; some even have spa tubs. A full gourmet breakfast and afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres are provided each day. The inn also makes available a state-of-the-art media room. 28 rooms. Parking $15.

NORTH METRO. East meets Northwest at this gorgeous inn on Whidbey Island. Guest rooms with Asian-inspired decor offer stunning views of Puget Sound's Saratoga Passage. Luxurious room amenities include porch-style balconies, oversized jetted tubs facing wood-burning fireplaces, and beds covered in European down-filled duvets. Spa Essencia provides pampering massages and facial treatments. The five-course tasting dinner at the Chef's Kitchen Restaurant is the star of any stay and features not only personal attention from the chef but delicious dishes prepared with the finest local ingredients. FREMONT. What this continental-style accommodation lacks in frills, it more than makes up for in location and value. Overlooking Pike Place Market, it ensures that you won't have to look far beyond the front door for shopping and entertainment. Ten rooms, most with sunny skylights, share four baths; two private suites have their own baths. The interior is bright, clean, and tidy. Space to relax and mingle can be found in the lounge, as can a fabulous view of Elliott Bay.

WEST SEATTLE. This pleasant inn was built in 1909 and is named for the hometown of original owner, Jacob Mades. Of the six guest rooms, two have a private bath. Most rooms also boast a spectacular view of either the Puget Sound or the Olympic Mountains. The inn is available for small business meetings, and a full complimentary breakfast is served daily in the dining room. Located 10 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from the airport.
