CAPITOL HILL. What was formerly known as Bimbo's Bitchin' Burrito Kitchen has toned down its name, gained a little more space, and become a 21+ only establishment. What hasn't changed, however, are well-proportioned tacos and quesadillas, not to mention unbeatable guacamole and a famous herb-roasted chicken burrito – plus, cumin-lime sour cream makes everything even tastier. Add a house-made margarita or a Negra Modelo, and you've got a great meal. However, if you get a little grief from the servers, don't be put off. It's part of the restaurant's signature attitude.

BELLTOWN. Enjoy a great meal while helping others when you patronize this local restaurant. Founded as a training ground for homeless people and other disadvantaged groups, FareStart allows its most promising students to prepare gourmet meals as a preface to a career in the culinary arts. The "cheap eats" lunch menu features soups, salads, and sandwiches. There's also a selection of hot entrées and desserts. On Thursday, a guest chef leads the enterprise, serving a three-course dinner for $24.95. Reservations are a must for this weekly event.

DOWNTOWN. In the mood for Italian? This large enterprise boasts a number of venues within its boundaries which will undoubtedly serve all tastes. One station offers bread and sandwiches, another vends pastas and pizzas, and there's also a small cafe and a sit-down restaurant that adds a note of sophistication to the whole complex. Depending on which area you choose, you'll find a masterful selection of antipasti, pizzas, sandwiches, soups, and risottos. Plus, the lobster ravioli is superb, as is the seashell pasta with chicken, cheese, and broccoli.

DOWNTOWN. This upscale dining room serves inventive Greek cuisine. Making an excellent starter, pita bread is served with your choice of spread, like roasted sweet red pepper, barrel-aged minty feta or skordalia. Meze, such as grilled octopus and dolmades with rice, and a variety of kabobs appear on the menu, and Lola doesn't skimp on main courses either. Offerings vary but may include a tagine of stuffed artichokes, avgolemono and saffron couscous or a whole fish with pickled green garlic and herbs.

RAVENNA. Take your afternoon tea and scones as they do in Notting Hill at this enchanting little tearoom, whose warmly decorated dining area almost seems out of place in cutting-edge Seattle. From fresh cucumber and mint sandwiches to lemon curd tarts, the menu bears a touch of formality. Breakfast and lunch courses are also served, and dishes include bangers and mash, a ham and cheddar scramble, smoked salmon quiche, and vegetarian tortellini.

INTERBAY. When the original Red Mill closed in 1967 after 30 years of great diner fare and ice cream, Seattle was left with but a few places to get really good burgers, crispy onion rings, or butterscotch malts. Fortunately, John and Babe Shepherd saw this need and opened this Interbay gem in 1994. It was an immediate success. In fact, so popular is this burger joint that the lunch line tends to stretch outside, and the likes of Al Bundy and Darth Vader (actors Ed O'Neil and James Earl Jones, respectively) have been seen enjoying a burger or two here. A word to the wise: the Red Mill is not cell phone tolerant, so make sure your ringer is off. An additional location is at Phinney Ridge.

UNIVERSITY DISTRICT. Convenient to the U-Wash campus, Schulze and friends specialize in the best ballpark cuisine you can imagine: brats, fries, and brews. Geared towards the college-aged crowd, the dining room features a few televisions that are usually tuned to whatever sport is on, making the perfect environs for enjoying a sandwich or your favorite dog with an amigo before heading out to sample the area nightscape or catching a game at Husky Stadium.

DOWNTOWN. Pike Place Market is already a jolt to the senses, but when you add to the mix the spicy bowls of award-winning chili served up at this tiny little dive, it becomes an all-out assault. From spicy, Texas recipes, to more laidback, California-style flavors (like veggies and chicken), they've got all types of chili covered. No matter what you opt for or how many times you visit, you can be sure of two things: WCC will always stake a legitimate claim to "Seattle's best chili," and the joint will always look the way it did when it opened its doors back in the early 80s.
Looking for light and tasty dishes with a quick turn-around time? Or perhaps a power lunch to close the deal? Here, you’ll find the right setting for either! An assortment of decors from casual and sporty to sophisticated and businesslike. You may also find the option of ordering take-out food.
