About Shawano

Shawano, serving as both town and county seat, draws its name from the "Shaw-an-aw" Native American tribe that first settled the region. The tribe moved from Florida to the Midwest and reflected the move in their native name. In 1853, the county separated from what was formerly Ochonto County. The town is located in the north of Wisconsin and boasts a rich heritage and close-knit community atmosphere.
