The Buzz -- Legend has it that in the 14th century, Chinese resistance fighters hid messages in small, round cakes in order to organize a coup against the tyrannical Yuan Dynasty. Named mooncakes because of their shape, these sweet little delicacies now come with all sorts of fillings, and restaurants across Singapore compete fiercely to produce the best mooncakes every year. While traditionalists still swear by old-fashioned baked lotus-seed mooncakes, the lighter snow-skin ones with gourmet fillings (champagne truffle and ganache, anyone?) have become all the rage.
