6. Peranakan Place

ORCHARD ROAD.   Fortunately, Singapore is fond of restoring old shophouses. Peranakan Place is a great example – it's been completely updated but retains its original character. Each one of the venues here is just beautiful, with gorgeous details like hardwood floors, decorative tile work, arches, beaded lamps and terrazzo bars. Acid Bar is lounge-y, with plenty of comfy seating and a groovy soundtrack. Alley Bar, which was literally the original alleyway between two buildings, is a bit more open and casual, and has great happy hour discounts on cocktails.
