NATIONAL SEASHORE.   This six-mile, self-guided scenic trek is located inside the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The route allows you to explore the habitats of several odd and unsual species – for example, there's the anhinga, a bird that swims the canals with only its snake-like head piercing the surface of the water. Seemingly a bird watchers' paradise, the drive also affords glimpses of short-billed and long-billed dowitcher, greater and lesser yellowlegs, willet, black-bellied plover, western sandpiper and red knot.   (© 10Best)
