Overview

Florida's Brevard County gained its colorful nickname from the Kennedy Space Center, which is located at Cape Canaveral. The area's about far more than count-downs and shuttle launches, though. The city of Melbourne is about an hour south of the Kennedy Space Center and features several affordable hotels, terrific restaurants and great shopping. Melbourne is also a high-tech center in its own right thanks to companies like Rockwell International, Harris Corp., Northrop-Grumman and D.B.A. Systems. Other noteworthy stops along the coast include Titusville, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island. From electronics to aviation, Sea-Doo's to seafood, cruise ships to scenic drives, the Space Coast has much to offer all year long.
