The view from Signal Hill is exceptional as it is located higher than the city's entrance at the harbor. From the hill you can see the Narrows, St. John's, icebergs, whales and, on clear days, Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America. The requisite signal flag flies from Cabot Tower, especially noteworthy when you consider that military and civilian signal flags have flown from this hill since 1704. In 1901 Signal Hill's place in history was assured – it's where Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless broadcast. Be sure to stop by the visitors' center for a good overview of the history of the hill.
