In 1911 the Bowring merchant family donated 200 acres to the city of St. John's to establish this beautiful park. Walking paths crisscross the lovely grounds, and there's a swimming pool, tennis courts, playground, picnic area and lawn bowling field. In the winter, residents of St. John's come to sled and ski. The park's several bronze statues include a rendering of Peter Pan that replicates a statue in Kensington Gardens in London. The statue of the Fighting Newfoundlander commemorates soldiers from the province.
