Cape Spear bears the distinction of being the easternmost point in North America. It's fitting that the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland stands at this notable spot once used for coastal defense in WWII. The original lighthouse was built in the mid 1830's and later replaced by the current light in the mid 1950's. A gift shop, grounds for walking and historical exhibits on the lighthouse greet guests. The views of the surrounding countryside and ocean are breathtaking. Icebergs and whales are commonly spotted during summer months.
