4. Newman Wine Vaults

Local legend has it that a Newman's Port Wine ship was headed from Portugal to London in 1677. Driven off course by pirates and storms, they landed in St. John's and were forced to remain in the harbor for several months due to winter's arrival. The wines in that shipment had such a wonderful bouquet and flavor that Newman's decided to age all of their port in Newfoundland. You can tour the two brick and stone wine cellars that were built in the early 19th century by Newman and Company.   (© 10Best)
