About St. John's

St. John's is the capital city of Newfoundland, an island often called "The Rock" due to its windswept and craggy appearance. One of the oldest cities in North America and the closest to Europe, the city's early rise to prominence was helped by its sheltered harbor, into which John Cabot sailed on St. John's Day in 1497.
