The Gateway Arch is St. Louis's most notable landmark. It is the focal point of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park and was built in the 1960's to commemorate the point at which many 19th century pioneers stopped for supplies before continuing West. A large plaza with terrazzo floors, a fountain, and a gift shop are located in the entrance area, along with the Museum of Westward Expansion and the Arch Odyssey Theatre, which shows films about the construction of the arch. Ride the tram to an observation room and witness spectacular views of the city.   (© 10Best)

You will gasp once you look up at the memorial's centerpiece-the world-famous Gateway Arch. Towering some 630 feet above the Mississippi River, this stainless steel beauty is the country's tallest national monument. While you do have to pay to get in - or, more precisely, up - the view from the top is well worth it. Gaping wide-eyed at the Arch from the outside is free of charge. (from Southern Living)

Gateway Arch
A must do while in St Louis, Missouri. The Museum of Western Expansion is a good museum as are the films. I esp liked the movie about the construction of the Arch. Children will love the Arch as will adults and the photo ops are wonderful.

I was impressed by the museum under the arch. The arch grounds were very nice and we had a picnic under the shade trees. The view from the top was amazing. Check out the old cathedral right next door.
