The bright decor, offset by the industrial setting, is the perfect scene for the wildly imaginative menu featured at this dynamic restaurant. Calamari salad is made with garbanzo beans and diced beans tossed with a lemon and oil dressing. This Central West End favorite quickly outgrew its first spot, then moved a few doors down and across Maryland Avenue. Try the spinach ravioli in tomato cream sauce that subtly highlights the hearty duck-pork filling. When we visited, we overheard a WWII vet sampling grappa a table away. "You know, I haven't had that since I left Italy in '45," he said softly, telling the owner how he and fellow survivors toasted with it to their lost buddies. The owner nodded, poured another label for him, and chatted as if there were nothing else he had to do. That's what we love about Bar Italia. (from Southern Living)
