4. City Diner

Some dishes are a cut above comfort/diner food, some are not. My favorites are the polenta appetizer, which comes with a delicious sun-dried tomato sauce; the vegetarian eggs benedict, which comes with a tomato slice; blueberry pancakes; garlic mashed potatoes; breakfast potatoes, both hash browns and cubed home fries. I haven't tried any of the meat dishes. There is usually a wait on Saturday and Sunday mornings, none at other times.

The City Diner has nice mom and pop shop feeling but at the same time it is not a greasy spoon. The food is excellent, they have the best Chicken Marsala, and a reasonable price. I always have to go there when I am in St. Louis.
