DOWNTOWN.
This popular steak house is a favorite spot after ball games and for family dinners and business occasions. The menu is typically American and features chicken noodle soup, savory spinach salad, escargot, steamed salmon, and plenty of steaks. The Missouri Beef Council has named Mike Shannon's the top beef restaurant in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Shannon, of course, gained fame as a Cardinals baseball player and as a sports broadcaster.

You don't come here for the food, which is tasty but not the best or most reasonably priced in downtown St. Louis. You come here for the atmosphere, from the baseball (and other sports) memorabilia to the frequent presence of owner Mike Shannon, Cardinal third baseman (earlier, outfielder) for three NL championship teams, two of which also won the World Series. Now the only remaining great Cardinal broadcaster, Shannon is usually there after the game and happily signs autographs and chats with fans who are (of course) drinking Anheuser Busch beers and snacking on toasted ravioli in the bar. It's a don't miss during baseball season, and I'm sure it's fun the other six months of the year as well.
