3. Como Park Zoo & Conservatory

I think if you know anything at all about wild captive animals - youd know that Zoos in general are poison to their natural way of living and alter their everyday habits and way of life. Como Zoo is actually one of the better small zoos I have visited. It was clean and the animals looked healthy and content. I have no clue what the person below is talking about. I didnt see anything inhumane - other than the animals being in captivity in the first place. No animal is happy in captivity where they have no business being.

This zoo could use some heavy-duty work, more funding from the state...is not going to work. I think they should charge admission because they seriously need to update their park. Some of the cages are very outdated.

I had attended Como Zoo and the Conservatory since I was a child, it wasn't until I was more of a young adult that I had noticed something is wrong. For example the Polar Bear exibit. It became more apparent to me that these animals are not functioning correctly pacing back and forth at the bottom of their pen as if you were watching a video loop. Or taking the same plunge in the pool over and over as if again you were watching a video loop. Its my opinion that these animals are mentally spent from being in such a small area. I don't think I want to return to the Como Zoo for I find it really depressing that humans can be as cruel to pen up these wild animals just to make them insane. I was starting to see the same thing in some of the other animals as well but the "signs" were not as apparent. Although a few of the exibits seemed as if someone was trying a bit harder to be more humane, but in my opinion just not enough. The Conservatory was beautiful though, I enjoyed seeing the various plants and trees and such, but my advice to others would be to not visit the Conservatory's back yard where the zoo is. It could very well ruin your whole trip.
