10. Sunken Gardens

ST. PETERSBURG.   Now managed by the city, this signature attraction first opened in 1935, when it was created by local gardener George Turner, Sr. Planted with thousands of specimens of plants and flowers, the 7 acres of gardens enjoy an extra measure of protection, situated, as they are, 15 feet below street level. Folks today love to browse the plantings, taking in their beauty, that of water features, and resident birds and butterflies. Regularly scheduled activities and events are also hosted at the gardens.   (© 10Best)
