1. Festival of States

The Buzz -- A city event for more than 80 years, this festival had its beginnings in a parade honoring George Washington's birthday. Years later, and following many permutations, the event features a host of activities that appeal to area residents and visitors alike. Past activities have included the always-popular signature parade, a blues festival, food vendors, chalk art, marching band exhibitions, fireworks, a black tie dinner, live music performances, and arts and crafts displays. A portion of the festival's proceeds goes to minority scholarships.
