CLEARWATER. Focusing on morning and midday meals, this pleasant eatery does well what it knows best. As local folks will attest, omelets are awesome, filled with mushrooms, avocado, cheese, ham, turkey, and bacon. Light, airy pancakes and French toast are graced with syrup and butter, and waffles are simultaneously crisp-edged and tender, just the way they're supposed to be. With coffee, juice, and signature First Watch potatoes, each meal is a shout-out to the morning that can't be ignored.

Whether you find the motif quirky or cute, you can't deny the quality of the food, which is well-prepared and delivered in ample portions. All the usual suspects make appearances, including waffles, omelets, and servings of fresh fruit. DUNEDIN. Casual and offbeat, this welcoming restaurant serves delicious food all day within its beachy environs. Breakfast is a much-favored meal, thanks to roast beef hash and eggs, oat bran banana flapjacks, compose-your-own omelets, and breakfast club sandwiches. Muffins, cereal, and fresh fruit satisfy those with lighter appetites, and bacon-and-eggs ensures that purists are well-cared-for. CLEARWATER. Although the restaurant's architecture doesn't allow views of Sand Key Park next door, knowing that the beach is so accessible is still something of a comfort. In fact, the resort's delicious brunch serves as a terrific prelude to a little beach-combing. Its bounty includes tables laden with luscious fruits, muffins, pastries, waffles, cereals, egg dishes, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. The all-you-can-eat extravaganza is ideal for famished vacationers, and fresh juices and coffee add a fragrant crowning touch.

ST. PETE BEACH. Known for its hospitality and many capable menu items, Skidder's has earned a familiar place as a neighborhood institution. The family-run business offers hearty portions of food that's influenced by Greek and Italian traditions. Lobster, steak, and fish dishes take care of those with elaborate dining needs, and sandwiches and burgers satisfy smaller lunchtime appetites. Breakfast brings on a slew of traditional fare (egg dishes, pancakes, waffles), and the accommodating staff is a welcome throwback to past days. At busy times, anticipate a wait.

ST. PETERSBURG. The giant rooster that keeps vigil at Jack's entrance provides ample indication that this isn't your run-of-the-mill eatery. Inside, a collection of homey kitsch confirms suspicions, although the kitchen proves unexpectedly adept, as evidenced by eggs florentine, stuffed French toast, brains and eggs, and creamed chipped beef. Naturally, more familiar options also figure in, like sausage, eggs, grits, waffles, biscuits, and hash browns. Helpings are hearty, and it's definitely not health food – thank goodness! Dig in!
