About St Andrews Attractions & Activities
A wander around the streets and coastal path of St Andrews with the wind blowing and the clouds racing across the huge sky is an exhilarating experience. Its a small town but it has enough to inspire, from its ancient monuments, including the cathedral and castle, to the beaches, rugged coastline and grand or austere designs of some of the University buildings, such as St Salvadors.
Performing arts enthusiasts should visit the Byre Theatre, refurbished and reopened by Scotlands James Bond, Sir Sean Connery, in 2001, which shows visiting and local productions (Byre Theatre, Abbey Street, St Andrews, KY16 9LA Tel: 01334 475000 www.byretheatre.com). Across the water, Dundees Rep Theatre has an award-winning ensemble that puts on critically acclaimed productions. Its also home to Scotlands national contemporary dance troupe, Scottish Dance Theatre, and a fabulous restaurant, the Het Theatre Café (Dundee Rep Theatre, Tay Square, Dundee DD1 1PB Tel: 01382 223530 www.dundeereptheatre.co.uk).
The New Picture House is a lovely old cinema of 1930s design, complete with barrel vaulted ceiling and balcony, showing blockbusters and less mainstream films (NPH Cinema, 117 North Street, St Andrews KY16 9AD Tel: 01334 474902)
