The StAnza Poetry Festival is held every March and attracts internationally-renowned and acclaimed Scottish poets. It also has an excellent children’s programme.
For those who want to rock, T in the Park, one of Britain’s biggest rock and pop concerts, is held every July in Ballado, outside Kinross (40km/25m).
Early August sees the Pittenweem Arts Festival, where the homes and gardens of the Pittenweem community become galleries and performance spaces.
Anyone with a love of flight shouldn’t miss the Leuchars Air Show, held over an early September weekend. The Red Arrows do one of their daring displays whilst the Battle of Britain is re-enacted in the skies above.
If you are coming to St Andrews for the golf, there are a number of tournaments all year round which in the near past have even included the Open. At the end of the pro year, in October, there’s the Alfred Dunhill Links championship – a thrilling event, even for those who hate the ghastly jumpers aspect of it.
