St Andrews is an old market town with a strong trading tradition. Like many British towns, it is desperately trying to resist the homogenisation of the high street and keep hold of its independent traders. Visitors to St Andrews can still find interesting and often unique shops tucked away in the pends (alleyways) and courtyards. From fine cheeses to designer knitwear, oriental rugs to a set of golf club warmers, some of its shops set the benchmark in Scotland.
For a fix of high street stores visit the ever-improving Dundee or for designer shopping, Edinburgh has recently knocked Glasgow off the top spot.
Shops are open Monday–Saturday, 9am–5pm, and are closed on Sundays.
