About Alberta
Welcome to "Sunny Alberta." Located in Western Canada, Alberta receives more sunshine per year than any other Canadian province. Visitors to Alberta are welcomed by the rugged beauty of the Canadian Rockies. North of the Rockies the land gives way to rolling hills, prairies and lakes. The largest cities are located here in central Alberta, the heart of her economy. Further north, trickling streams become mighty rivers in Alberta's untapped wilderness. The more daring outdoorsmen visit this region. Other naturalists enjoy activities such as fishing, hiking, hunting, bird-watching, skiing and dog sledding throughout the rest of Alberta's magnificent landscapes. One such site is Banff National Park. Known for its pristine mountain views and world-class skiing, Banff is one of Alberta's most popular attractions. The region's capital, Edmonton, is commonly called "Festival City" because of its year-round celebrations. One of the most famous festivals, Stampede, takes place in the city of Calgary. The festival celebrates Canada's Old West with rodeos and more. Alberta was once full of cattle-ranchers and to this day is said to have some of the best beef in the world. Another famous attraction is the West Edmonton Mall, the largest in the world with over 800 stores, a hotel, a water park and more. If you have time, take a ride on the Alberta Prairie Railway, one of the last operable steam trains in the world. Speeding through the grassy plains you can really experience Alberta's countryside while enjoying a full Canadian meal.
