From Gone with the Wind to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, from barbecue and Coca-Cola to country and hip-hop music, Georgia and her people are some of the most diverse in the US. Political, civil rights and social leaders as well as writers, artists and musicians have called The Peach State home. This jewel of the South is the largest state east of the Mississippi and boasts a population of more than 9 million people. Whether visiting small towns like Vidalia, Eatonton or Hartwell or the metropolitan centers of Savannah, Augusta and Atlanta, visitors will always find diversions along the state's six major interstates. Military history buffs mass at Chickamauga Military Park in north Georgia and Andersonville National Historic Site in the southwest. The state's geography is as varied and interesting as its people and is marked by northern mountains, sweeping plains, and coastal islands and seaside towns. The Chattahoochee is the largest river in Georgia and flows from Brasstown Bald, the state's highest mountain, through lovely towns, and west to form the boundary between Georgia and Alabama.
