About Manitoba

Long before Henry Hudson sailed to Manitoba in 1611, this central Canadian province was home to the splendor and excitement of some of nature's most amazing wonders. Naturalists and sportsmen alike can find their dream vacation in the crisp, rugged outer reaches of Manitoba, while culture, sports and entertainment abound in Winnipeg, the provincial capital. Looking for a wild ride? Head to Churchill in the fall, a two-and-a-half hour flight north of Winnipeg, and ride over the tundra in specially-designed vehicles to view polar bears as you can see them nowhere else. In the summer, this same area is home to beluga whales, who come to feed in the waters near the Hudson Bay. There is no experience to match your chance to paddle or snorkel among the whales. If you fancy fishing, western Manitoba can offer some of the best fly-fishing anywhere. And the Red River is home to some of the best giant channel catfishing in the world. In the early spring, Manitoba is home to one of the greatest shows on Earth – the Northern Lights. Looking for art, culture, sports or history? Winnipeg has it all, from St. Boniface Cathedral and the Forks National Historic Site to the Manitoba Opera and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. This bustling city has it all and provides a nice contrast to the more rugged adventures in northern Manitoba. Whether your interests run to snowshoeing, wildlife tracking, hiking, biking, kayaking, bird watching, camping, or even a country fair, Manitoba has something spectacular waiting for you.
