About Montana
Known as Big Sky Country, Montana is exactly that. With the fourth largest area of all US states and no metropolitan area over 1,000,000, Montana has one of the lowest population densities in the country. With that comes some of the most beautiful scenery around. Nature-lovers flock to this state to hike the forested trails, canoe the many rivers and lakes, or ski the glistening slopes. Both Glacier National Park and three of the five entrances to Yellowstone National Park are found here. Montana's largest city, Billings, is home to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Park which marks the site of the battle between the Sioux and Cheyenne Indians and the US government. As settlers continued to press westward, the Indians fought back at Little Bighorn, and under the leadership of the famous Crazy Horse they were victorious. To this day, the area is mostly untouched. Further west in the city of Bozeman is Montana State University and its Museum of the Rockies chronicling the region's ancient history. The streams are teeming with trout. Buffalo still roam in the open plains and there are more grizzly bears than in any other state. In late summer, the state's prized fruit, the huckleberry, is sought by all to be made into delicious pies and jams. The people of Montana are known for their friendliness and are proud of this untouched wilderness that makes up their great state.Local Color
