State Description

Canada's second largest province, Ontario, offers a unique landscape with features ranging from one of the most populated cities in North America to the longest freshwater beach in the world. The province is located in east-central Canada, bordered by Hudson Bay as well as the Great Lakes. Ontario is home to miles and miles of beaches and water views. In fact, with over 250,000 lakes and rivers, close to one-third of the world's freshwater is located here. Wasaga Beach, on beautiful Georgian Bay, is the longest freshwater beach in the world. Its sandy shores attract people from all over to soak up the sun, play in the sparkling water, or enjoy many of the events like jazz concerts and military re-enactments staged along the shore. Perhaps Ontario's most famous attraction is Niagara Falls. These fantastic and world-famous falls send more than one-half-million gallons of water over the edge ever second. The nation's capital, Ottawa, is located in Ontario, and the province's capital, Toronto, is the fifth largest city in North America. Anyone who has visited will testify to Toronto's unique surprises. Known for being one of the safest cities in the world, Toronto's diverse culture has something for everyone from outdoor jazz festivals, to New-York style clubs, to world-class fine dining or soy hot dogs from a quirky street vendor. Outside the city, the countryside of the province is equally worth visiting. The tranquil snowscapes, brilliant autumn leaves and glittering freshwater beaches make Ontario an ideal destination any time of year, but visitors in the early spring are rewarded to find the woodland floor carpeted in delicate white trillium blossoms.
