Started by Norwegian settler Carl Howelsen in 1914, this is known as one of the best ski jumping facilities in the US and is an Olympic training site (more than 50 Olympic athletes have trained here!). The park also features cross country ski trails, night skiing, a few downhill runs, snowboarding, and snowshoeing in the winter. Fun summer opportunities range from runs on the thrilling Howler Alpine Slide and hiking to mountain biking and pro rodeo performances at Romick Arena. The park is owned and managed by the City of Steamboat Springs. The slopes here are the best deal in town: an inexpensive lift ticket buys you a couple of hours on the mountain and the chance to try night skiing on well-lit slopes.
