Ideally situated in a lush valley between the Green and Worcester Mountain ranges and known by many as the "Ski Capital of the East," Stowe has a rich heritage of welcoming visitors into its cordially enveloping arms. A network of over 45 downhill ski trails traverse the majestic Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, at Stowe Mountain Resort; the Stowe Recreation Path provides 5.5 miles of uninhibited track for cross-country enthusiasts. Summer time activities include tours of the nearby Ben and Jerry's Factory and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain peaks via Stowe Mountain Resort's impressive Gondola ride that ascends the 4393 foot height of Mount Mansfield. Romantic inns and charming bed and breakfasts stand alongside rustic lodges and sprawling resorts. The whimsical Trapp Family Lodge is an Austrian chateau built around the legendary Trapp Family of the beloved classic, "The Sound of Music." At recent count, Stowe had a collection of over 50 restaurants, quite an impressive number, considering the population stands at just about 4340.
