TRUCKEE. The biggest reason that folks strike out for this part of the country is the awe-inspiring scenery of the Sierra Nevada mountains and their surrounding lakes and rock formations. Visitors are certainly not disappointed by this forest, which offers up nature in spades. Across it, pioneers and settlers struggled westwards, Native Americans lived and hunted, and railroads were built. Even so, the woods have never been fully tamed, and vacationers flock here to hike, bike, ski, camp, picnic, rock-climb, and simply stand, mouths agape, dumbstruck by the immensity and interconnectedness of nature.
