This Tallahassee sightseeing destination is home to a 1679 fort constructed by a Spanish Governor. In 1718, Captain Jose Primo de Ribera arrived to begin on a second wooden fort. A stone fort, begun in 1739, was less than half completed when the site was delivered to the English in 1763 as a result of the war with Spain. A federal marine hospital was completed in 1840, where a Tallahassee landmark and Visitors Center now stand, offering exhibits and artifacts to peruse.
